About Anne-Kathrin Virks

Anne-Kathrin Virks, Translator

I was born in Hildesheim in 1985. I am married and have two sons. When I’m not at my desk, I enjoy spending time in the woods, baking chocolate cakes or building sandcastles in the playground.

Since I have always had a passion for language and other cultures, translation was the obvious career choice for me. I completed my translation studies in English and Spanish in Hildesheim, Castellón de la Plana (Spain) and Germersheim.

Following this, I worked for some time as a project manager and translator in translation offices in London and Frankfurt am Main.

What I like most about translating is that every project enables me to meet interesting people and learn exciting things. The job never gets boring and I am always learning new skills.

About AKV Language Services

In 2012, I decided to take the plunge into self-employment and provide language services in the areas of certified translation (beglaubigte Übersetzung), technical translation, proofreading/editing and transcription.

My stays abroad gave me first-hand experience of the difficulties inherent in moving to a foreign country. This is why I have specialised in the certified translation of certificates, in order to support private clients during this stage and to ensure everything runs smoothly.

In spite of excellent foreign language skills, I work according to the native speaker principle: I translate almost exclusively into the German language. This way, I can guarantee that my translations are seamless as regards style, grammar, idioms and content.

I make an exception to this principle for certified translations into the English language. Here I enjoy a successful proofreading collaboration with an experienced English native speaker, so as to ensure the highest possible quality.

My role as a project manager gave me an in-depth understanding of the organisational side of language services: My day-to-day work involves supporting and advising customers, dealing with various types of text and file formats as well as special cultural requirements.

I am highly familiar with the procedures and requirements for translation projects. I have successfully managed numerous multilingual projects for both large and small companies, and I know exactly what is important in international business transactions. I would be more than happy to use my expertise to advise and support you with your German or English language project.

I place a great deal of emphasis on the dialogue with my clients and their satisfaction. If there are grounds for a complaint and you are not 100% satisfied with my work I am sure we will find a solution quickly.
